The first creation was for Henry Grey, 1st. Marquess and 12th. Earl of Kent. He did not have male heirs, so all of his titles, save Marquess Grey and Baron Lucas, were extinct. The latter two titles were inherited by his granddaughter.

Royal Earldom of Kent (1866)

This earldom was created for Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, son of Queen Victoria. The Earldom included Kent and the Irish province of Ulster.
